January Playlists and Events recap... Making 2019 the best year yet :)

January… what a month!

If I’m being completely honest, the end of 2018 was a touch challenging for me. Shorter winter days matched with the stress of the holidays almost wiped me out. But that’s where our community stepped in to lift me up. I spent most of December making plans for events in this new year and what came out of that surprised even me.

My biggest take away from this month is that when we have ideas that we think will be great, we need to try them. I am guilty of being my own worst critic sometimes and that can paralyze me. I get ideas and initially think “OMG that would be so fun!” and about 30 seconds later I start convincing myself why I shouldn’t do it.

How is it possible that we defeat ourselves when we know what we want to do could be amazing? I call it impostor syndrome. I have fear that people are going to “find me out” and when they do, all of this will come crumbling down. Why am I sharing this? Because we all experience this to a degree. We all create conversations in our minds that convince us that we aren’t good enough, we don’t have the right degree, we don’t have the ability to succeed, we aren’t skilled enough to charge for our services (entrepreneur friends, I know you feel me on this one). But the real thing that is happening is that we are afraid of failure. If we put ourselves out there we might fail. It took me a long time to get over that fear and a lot of loving friends to encourage me to really put in the effort. If I had let impostor syndrome win, we never would have had the amazing events I highlight below. Which means my own self doubt would have prevented other people from enjoying themselves. How unfair it would have been to keep these event ideas to myself.

Don’t listen to that voice telling you that you can’t do it. If it happens to creep in, send me a message and I promise you I will pump you up with so much self belief you’ll want to run a marathon when we are done talking.

Whatever it is that you are afraid of failing… try it anyway. You might create something that blows your mind.

Yoga on the cliffs

January started with a great Cliffs yoga class. Our class community has grown and created so many lovely new connections. Every week I am filled with this amazing energy that I can’t really put into words. The feedback I get from most who attend, is that the outdoor yoga classes are so full of zen and peace that it keeps them coming back. I’m here to tell you that energy is created from each of you. I get to be on the receiving end of that every week and its almost overwhelming…. in a good way :) We had so many amazing classes this month in the beautiful San Diego sun. Each one was different and each one gave us all something to carry with us throughout our week. Of all the things I have tried, it is still the cliffs classes that bring me the most joy.

Here is our playlist from the first class of the New Year <3

Yoga Vision: A Yoga and Vision Board Workshop

Our first special event of the month was a Vision board workshop “Yoga Vision”. 14 of us got together on a rainy Saturday morning at The Little Black House in Little Italy. We did yoga, ate snacks and then moved into creating a vision for 2019. We used worksheets to get clear on our intentions, set goals and visualize what we wanted to invite into our life in the new year. There were lots of images of family, vacations, new kitchens, attractive partners and friendship. I was honestly amazed at what was created in that room. What I shared that day, was that this event was a part of my 2018 vision. I really wanted to try it in January 2018 but didn’t feel ready. This year I went for it and we created an amazing event full of laughter and love. Thank you to everyone who came for making my vision a reality!

Special Shout out to my husband who helped to set up and breakdown the event and served us wine as we were crafting. You da best!

Vine-Yasa: Yoga at Orfila Vineyards & Winery

Toward the end of the month we had our first Vine-yasa at Orfila Vineyards in Escondido. I started manifesting this event in November. So how did this event come together? Our community helped it happen. After our OptOutside yoga class I was invited to hang out at the winery to enjoy the outdoors with some friends I made through our cliffs class. When I got there I saw this amazing area of flat grass that overlooked the vineyard and I instantly thought “We need to do a class here.” With the support of some amazing friends helping to make the connections and the awesome event staff at Orfila we created this experience that surprised all of us. Our hope was that we could get at least 15-20 people who were interested in attending, but to our amazement this event capped out at 45 people! There was even a wait-list!

All of that happens because of community. Friends that support these crazy ideas, share the events, invite their friends and get as excited about this as I do. Special shout out to the event manager Tania at Orfila, the San Diego Tone It Up community, the Almost30 San Diego girls for helping to spread the word about this awesome event, and my girl Krista for helping to adjust during class. Special shout out to the husband again for helping to check everyone in and assist with the waivers getting signed!

We hope to bring this event back again fro everyone to enjoy :) Below is our playlist from that day <3

So what’s next? So many things! I have a lot of ideas I am working on to create really fun ways to introduce yoga and movement to everyone in accessible ways. Making it fun and connected to community while still focusing on the mindful movement that started this journey. If we are going to do yoga, let’s make it fun!

Flower Flow.jpg

The next special event on our list is Flower Flow: Yoga the Carlsbad Flower Fields on March 30th at 8:30am. This is something I have been thinking about for a long time. The beauty of the flowers with a connectedness of community, it doesn’t get much better than that! We will gather for a one hour yoga flow over looking the full bloom, gain early entry to the flower fields, have a photographer on hand to capture your day in the flowers and create some magic in one of San Diego’s most iconic landmarks.

I am so excited for what February has in store. In all honesty, I would never have made it this far without the support of friends and community. I can’t thank you enough for making these crazy dreams come true. If I can ever help any of you in any way with your ventures, please hit me up! We reach our highest potential when others lift us up.
